Bonsai expresses the appearance of a plant, and you can feel the nature and scenery behind it. That is to say: it is a miniature version of great nature. At that time, as I had already decided to move to New York after this exhibition, I tried to reflect my ambition for the future life in the US into the bonsai. Also, I had a resolution never to forget the underlying morals and identities of being a “Japanese.”
